Biggar & Upper Clydesdale Museum

Website design and development by Creatomatic

The Project

Biggar & Upper Clydesdale museum explores 14,000 years of rural and small-town life in Upper Clydesdale. A 5 star rated Visit Scotland attraction, the museum is run by the Biggar Museum Trust, a registered Scottish charity.

Their key product and service offering covers the museum and its 12 collections, a temporary exhibition programme (3-4 per annum), an events programme, an exhibition space/meeting room for hire, guided tours, a gift shop and archive access.

Our Role

In light of the challenges posed by the pandemic, a need was identified by the Biggar Museum Trust to modernise and update their website. A number of project aims were identified:

  • Educate, inform and engage visitors and the local community about the rich history of the area
  • Drive footfall to the museum and maximise repeat visitation
  • Support fundraising activities
  • Help recruit and improve engagement with volunteers
  • Highlight the organisation’s not for profit status

The Result

Our planning, design and build teams worked closely with the trust in order to ensure the new site achieved the levels of resilience and stability they required in a post-covid world. To achieve this, the following was designed and developed:

  • An extensive and informative collections section, making the most of supplied photography
  • An easy to navigate visitor section and embedded virtual tour video
  • An engaging what’s on calendar, incorporating our Eve events system
  • A support us section to promote volunteer engagement and fundraising activities
  • An intuitive blog system to feature guest blogs from contributing authors

With full buy in and approval from both trustees and Visit Scotland, it’s great to see the new site supporting on-site activities, with the museum now re-open.
