DG Food and Drink

Website design and development from Creatomatic

The Project

DG Food and Drink is a project developed with funding from Dumfries and Galloway Council, designed to help locals and tourists alike get the full flavour of the region. Known for its rugged landscape and breathtaking coastline, Dumfries and Galloway produces some of Scotland’s finest food, from milk and ice cream to chillies and oysters.

Our Role

Our brief was to plan, design and build a a digital solution to represent the region’s food and drink assets that allows visitors to easily find what they are looking for. The new website needed a fresh, clean design to showcase the best of Dumfries & Galloway’s food and drink offering to locals and tourists alike, as well as a fully-responsive database.

We developed and integrated a database-driven map-based listings directory to make the process of browsing and finding details about any of the regions food and drink producers and venues as easy as possible. Using custom post types created within WordPress, we set up the flexibility to be able to easily list, update and manage events (food festivals, farmers markets) and listings (venues, shops, restaurants, producers). Users are also be able to sort and filter by location and/or type (e.g. ‘Restaurants near Portpatrick‘).

The Result

DG Food and Drink showcases the great produce and places to eat across Dumfries and Galloway. Fast becoming a food tourism destination with such strong links to food production, including agriculture and fishing, the region’s visitor attractions, tourist shops, farmers’ markets and food festivals offer a veritable feast of local food and drink, which is now easy to access in a single, online location.
