The Face of Roman Scotland
Trimontium is a Roman fort near Melrose, a place of international importance as the largest Roman fort and settlement north of Hadrian’s Wall, and the site of the greatest concentration of Roman military-related finds in the British Isles.
A fantastic resource for current and future generations, the fort and settlement is made up of a military/civilian complex which involves a fort, four annexes, field systems, a bridge crossing the river Tweed, as well as roads, shrines and a cemetery covering around 370 acres. It is also the site of the most northerly Roman Amphitheatre within the Roman empire.
