Trimontium is a Roman fort near Melrose, a place of international importance as the largest Roman fort and settlement north of Hadrian’s Wall, and the site of the greatest concentration of Roman military-related finds in the British Isles. Trimontium museum, in Melrose, tells its story.

The Trimontium Trust has been telling the story of Roman settlement north of Hadrian’s Wall for more than 30 years, sparked from a public enquiry into a threat posed to the site of the fort by a proposed local bypass. A really interesting project, this one.

Designing around an existing brand and logotype, it was important the new site showcased everything that Trimontium had to offer while continuing to reflect the historical and archaeological importance of the museum and fort site.

Membership sales help support the Trust and promote the growth of the museum, the conservation of Scotland’s Roman past, and the continued role of the site in informing and educating current and future generations, and this formed another key part of the site.

The aim was to ensure that site users could access information clearly and easily, without making the amount of information too overwhelming. To do this, we created different avenues around the site, making sure users could clearly navigate from one page to the other in order to discover everything Trimontium has to offer.

Improved functionality and an enjoyable user experience, whilst retaining the trust’s brand and voice, helps showcase what’s on offer and provides essential information for visitors to the Trimontium site.
