John McNeil Funeral Directors

Integrated tech:

Based in Stranraer, John McNeil Funeral Directors is a fourth-generation family business that has been a pillar of the local community since 1948. They came to Creatomatic at a significant turning point; having recently moved into and beautifully refurbished the former St Andrew’s Church, they possessed a clear, modern vision for the future of the business. They were looking for a partner who could translate their reputation for deep-rooted care into a contemporary visual identity and a digital presence that felt as supportive as their face-to-face service.

The challenge for John McNeil was balancing nearly 80 years of heritage with a forward-thinking outlook. Their existing branding didn’t reflect the professional, sophisticated environment of their new premises, nor did it communicate the level of modern care they provide. From a digital perspective, the hurdle was even higher: we needed to create an online experience for users navigating one of life’s most difficult times. The goal was to build a platform that felt clear, calm, and effortlessly navigable, removing any potential digital noise to provide immediate reassurance and information to those who need it most.

We drew our primary inspiration from the beautiful church building, using the striking stained-glass windows of the refurbished church to shape a new monogram logo and a sophisticated colour palette. This approach allowed us to create a brand that felt anchored in the local landscape while appearing clean and contemporary. This visual language was then carried through to a completely redesigned website, where we focused on a simplified structure and an intuitive navigation system.

By stripping away complexity, we ensured that the digital journey is as stress-free as possible, allowing visitors to find essential information with ease. The final result is a cohesive identity that accurately reflects the care, professionalism, and attention to detail that the team have been known to offer for generations.
