Making Rural Connections During Mental Health Awareness Week

During Mental Health Awareness week, we wanted to share our recent experience of mental health training in the work place.

A few weeks ago, some of the team spent a morning working with the fantastic Joy who delivered ‘An Insight into Mental Health’ as part of the Rural Connections programme. The programme is aimed at rural businesses who might be looking to find out more about how they can look after their mental health, or build mental health awareness at work. The programme also looks to address isolation in areas like rural Scotland.

We signed up after looking for courses that we could take part in and finding information on Support in Mind Scotland‘s website. We then worked closely with them to arrange the training and ensure we had all the correct resources required.

You can read more about our experience over on the Mental Health UK website where you’ll find us on their blog talking about the training and how working in a rural area, particularly during the pandemic, had made us think about how we work and the connections we have with our colleagues.

The course was a morning spent working through different scenarios and getting more of an insight into the way different people experience dealing with stress and other things that can contribute to changes in our mental health. The session worked really well on Zoom as we were able to use the breakout rooms function to enable us to work in smaller groups for some sections of the course.

At the end of the session, we were able to take away our workbooks which contained everything we’d run through on the day, as well as further information and resources which could provide to be useful in the future.

If you’re looking for a course that helps you understand mental health in the work place, or if you think you’d be interested in the course as a rural business, we would highly recommend checking it out! You can find out more information here, or give us a shout if you want to hear more about our experience.
