Creatomatic is now a certified B Corp. What does that mean?
Creatomatic is now a certified B Corp. It’s something that’s been on our list of things to do for a while now.
After ten months of assessment by B Lab UK, we signed our certification agreement on 21 September 2026, and our public B Corp profile is now live for anyone to see.
That makes us the first independently owned business in Dumfries and Galloway to certify, and one of around 100 B Corps in Scotland.
We’re quietly chuffed. Well, not that quietly.
What being a certified B Corp actually means
B Corp is a certification run by the non-profit B Lab. It looks at how a business treats its staff, its community, its customers and the environment, and how it’s governed.
It isn’t a badge you can buy, and it isn’t a one-off award. Every answer is backed by evidence, checked independently, and reassessed every three years.
It also asks for a permanent legal change. We’ve amended our Articles of Association (known as Mission Lock) so our directors must consider people and the planet in every decision, not just profit. That bit doesn’t expire.
And it’s not only about the environment, which is what most folk assume. That’s one of five areas, alongside workers, community, governance and customers. Here’s how we measure up in each.
Why we did it
We’ve run Creatomatic as a values-led business from day one.
We were the first Real Living Wage employer in Annan (our original home town). We’re founding members of the Good Business Charter. Everyone on the team here is on a permanent contract with guaranteed hours. No zero-hours contracts, ever.
But that was us saying it. And anyone can say nice things about themselves.
B Corp had been on our “that looks like something we should do” list for years. It gave us what we were missing: one independent, recognised standard that checks all of it in one place.

What’s involved
Because we already practised most of what B Corp preaches, the process was less about changing direction and more about tidying and tightening how we work. That meant:
- Writing Mission Lock into our Articles of Association
- Documenting our impact business model
- Pulling together workforce data, including pay ratios, so fairness across the whole company is on record
You’re assessed on every little detail of how you run. It’s hard work. Our director James puts it like this:
“Running a business with a strong moral compass is far from easy. When so much of the world seems hellbent on cheaper, faster and losing the humans, it’s nice to know we’re not contributing to any of that.”
What it means for you
If you’re a client, especially a charity, public sector body or values-led organisation that looks closely at its suppliers, you no longer have to take our word for it. It’s been independently checked.
If you’re thinking of joining the team, you’d be joining an employer verified to treat its people well. Keep an eye on our careers page.
If you’re another business in Dumfries and Galloway wondering whether B Corp is realistic for a company your size, it is. If you already have a strong moral compass and you’re happy to be assessed on the detail, go for it. It’s been worth the effort for us, and we’re always happy to chat about how it went.
Anyone who’s certified has done it with good intentions. It’s not a competition. The more B Corps there are in the South of Scotland, the better.
