Scheduled Server Maintenance – Intel Security Patches

James Miodonski 8th of January 2018

You may be aware of recent reports of a serious security flaw with many Intel computer chips found on PCs, desktops and servers (see – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42561169).

Whilst we have no reason to believe any of our systems are at risk of compromise, we prefer to go with the time-honoured tradition of squealing before we’re hit. The relevant security patches we need have just been released so we’re adopting a belt and braces approach to get these put in place as quickly as possible.

To minimise disruption as much as is possible, we’ll be carrying out as much of this update work after working hours as we can, however we do anticipate some short periods of downtime to some client’s sites during the day as we’re working through this.  We apologise for the obvious inconvenience this may cause, however we can’t stress enough the importance of carrying out these updates as quickly as possible.

Thanks, as always, for your patience and understanding.

James M
