Gretna Green Group

Integrated tech:

Since 1754, Gretna Green has been the world’s most famous destination for weddings and romance. As a fifth-generation family business and one of Scotland’s most iconic heritage brands, they manage a vast estate that includes world-leading visitor experiences, historic exhibitions, hotels, and retail. They came to Creatomatic because they needed a partner who could respect nearly 300 years of history while possessing the technical ‘know-how’ to modernise a complex digital presence. They were looking for an agency that could bridge the gap between timeless storytelling and high-performance e-commerce and lead-generation.

Gretna Green came to us with a significant digital hurdle: their online presence didn’t fully reflect the magic of the physical destination. They aren’t just a venue; they are the custodians of one of the greatest love stories of all time, welcoming thousands of couples and tourists from across the globe every year.

The existing website struggled to balance the diverse needs of their audience, from couples planning a bespoke wedding to international tourists looking for a day trip or locals visiting the cafe. The brand needed a retrospective development; they didn’t need to reinvent their famous name, but they did need to refine and modernise their visual identity. The goal was to create a digital home that felt as warm and inviting as a ‘Coorie’ stay in one of their hotels, while working much harder to drive enquiries and manage complex wedding packages.

We began with a retrospective brand development, refining the existing logo and building a full suite of supporting assets to strengthen the identity across every touchpoint. We then brought this to life with a fully rebuilt website, designed with a clear content hierarchy and intuitive navigation. To solve one of their biggest user pain points, we developed a bespoke Wedding Package Finder, allowing couples to filter through a huge range of options and discover their perfect day in just a few clicks. This technical solution was wrapped in an elegant design that used typography to craft relationships between words, subtly reflecting the heritage of a place that brings people together.

To ensure the brand felt ‘lived-in’ rather than corporate, we shifted the photographic focus toward the experience itself, capturing guests enjoying a coffee under a cosy throw rather than just showing empty hotel rooms. Under the hood, we built the site on a flexible, future-proofed framework.

The result is a seamless digital journey that honours nearly 300 years of history while delivering a high-performance, modern experience for the next generation of Gretna Green visitors.
