chris.

He applied for the role in Creatomatic as he was specifically looking for a role in web development having studied software development. At the time of applying he was offered two jobs at the same time – one in his hometown of Glasgow, the other, Creatomatic in Lockerbie. It was because of the energy and the work that they were doing that he favoured Creatomatic over the competition, and it is because of those reasons he remains ever present here. He has absolutely no regrets in choosing Creatomatic over a more geographically convenient workplace – though don’t ask his car mileage counter that.

Outside of work you will usually find Chris watching Rugby, playing badminton or spending time with his wife and son.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?

If you’re passionate about something commit to it. Don’t just be content with being content. You’re capable of more than you know.

How do you stay inspired?

By looking from where I’ve come from. I’ve spent much of my adult life “coasting” through jobs I didn’t have much interest in. It wasn’t until I studied for Web Development and got my first role with Creatomatic did I start to apply myself fully. In a relatively short amount of time this opportunity has allowed me to buy a house, get married and have a child. If I can come that far in 4 years, how far might I go in another 10 years.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

Probably my natural affinity with sports. Being on the larger side people naturally assume I’m a rugby player which they would be correct in saying. However I’ve played a variety a sports at a competitive level including – fencing, tennis, basketball, water polo, swimming. More notably I’m probably a better cricket and badminton player than I am a rugby player.

What’s a project you’re particularly proud of and why?

Gretna Green. It was a big project for a well known Scottish company. I really got to take ownership of the project from a build perspective and seeing the impact the website is having and the response from the client makes me proud to have been a part of it.

What’s your favourite Creatomatic moment so far?

Probably being made Build Team Lead. I certainly didn’t join the company with expectations that this would be a possibility, being a fresh faced junior developer facing imposter syndrome at every corner. But as time has gone on and my skills have improved, its extremely rewarding that the Higher Ups saw something in me I maybe didn’t see in myself to begin with.
